Is Oklahoma is Trouble?

State officials have been talking about the nursing shortage for awhile now. Oklahoma may be in one of the worst conditions and is expected to be short of over 3000 nurses by 2012. Colleges aren't helping since they don't simply have space for these nurses. The number of senior citizens are also increasing at an enormous rate.

By 2020, there is expected to be 12 million seniors looking for nursing help. Many of those people were nurses themselves which makes the problem even more severe. It's...

Nursing Program at Penn State Becomes Own School

Penn State has finally caught up with the other big schools and separated the nursing program into it's own school. This means the nursing school will now have their own dean and will operate separately from other health programs. This means they will be able to increase enrollment with the extra funding they will receive.

This is important because nursing enrollment has increased tremendously and the health care industry needs as many nurses as they can get. The nursing shortage is getting...

Some Causes of Nursing Shortage

Many hospitals around the nation are fighting the nursing shortage. To make it even worse, it is calculated that over 42K qualified students were turned away from nursing schools in the 2006 to 2007 school year because there wasn't enough space to take them. Now we start to see where the real bottleneck is.

There are two main reasons for not producing enough nurses according to Patrcia Doplhin, associate dean of Univ of Oklahoma's College of Nursing. One is that the average age of nurses are...

Franklin Pierce University recently received a federal grant for the nursing program. This is a program to try to curb the growing nursing shortage that is lingering.
